Abstract
The purpose of the research is to develop a valid and reliable instrument used to assess the competency of the star-hotel receptionists. The development of instrument items follows: knowledge, skills and attitude domains; and five competencies domains of national working qualification standards as well. In the first phase, the researcher performs the theoretical validation involving the experts. Analysis of the data used in this preliminary stage is tested with Pearson product moment. The researcher conducts empirical validation with 367 star-hotel receptionists involvement as respondents. Analysis of empirical validation implement two distinct analytical techniques (1) correlation coefficient of Pearson Product Moment with SPSS ver 18.0 program; (2) the goodness of fit measurement model was measured with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) through Maximum Likelihood method, with the application of Lisrel 8.80 program. Meanwhile, reliability of instrument items is also estimated with Alpha Cronbach reliability test. The research shows that there is no distinct result of those analysis. It also results in the form of a set of instrument to measure the star-hotel receptionist competency through selling, communication and administrative domains.
