Abstract

This article analyzes the strategy of developing grill-fish restaurants in Karang Ria Beach area as a culinary tourism destination in the Manado city. This tourist area has great tourism potential, including a variety of traditional local culinary menus made from fish that are enjoyed by the atmosphere of the coastal landscape, the strategic location is easily reached from anywhere in the center of Manado City, close to the Mega Mas shopping area and Manado Harbor. The magnitude of the tourism potential has not been able to guarantee the center of grill-fish restaurants in the Karang Ria Beach area, becoming a favorite tourist culinary destination. Being in an area that is crowded with population density, resulting in unavoidable environmental pollution problems around the tourist area, lack of public awareness of the importance of environmental benefits, culinary promotion that is still not well targeted, and lack of supporting facilities on tourist objects, making slow development of culinary tourism potential which is supported by Karang Ria Beach. The stages in this study were an inventory of the potential of culinary tourism owned by the centers of grilled fish restaurants in the Karang Ria Coast region, then explained the constraints that hampered, the third formulated the tourism potential development strategy. These potentials are then analyzed by the SWOT matrix which results in an S-O strategy, namely the development of traditional local menus, the S-T strategy is fostering local communities related to the environment, then the W-O strategy namely price and promotion adjustments, and W-T strategies for developing public facilities for culinary tourism and coastal tourism.
